1945
  • Woa Cholena Lodge 322 of the Mobile Area Council was chartered as White Fang Lodge on October 4, 1945. The name White Fang comes from the word "Woa Cholena" which means "Great White Bird". Leslie Allen Elected first Lodge Chief.
 
1946
  • The Lodge's first ordeal was held on April 20, 1946 with 23 members inducted. Members of Choctaw Lodge #193 of Meridian, MS came to conduct the Ordeal at Camp Pushmataha in Citronelle, AL. Len Hubbard elected Lodge Chief.
 
1947
  • Ernest Thublin elected Lodge Chief.

  • On May 15-17, 1955 White Fang Lodge hosted the 4th V-A Area Conference. Lloyd Nelson, the National Chairman of the Order gave the challenge Speech.

  • Michael Hunt is Lodge Chief.
  • In November of 1957, White Fang Lodge changed their name to Woa Cholena, The White Goose is adopted as the lodge totem. Note: In an oral interview with Mr. George Yeend(Lodge Chief '58) Our Lodge has never been referred to as War Eagle Lodge.

  • Woa Cholena hosted the Area Conference in 1965 at Maubila Scout Reservation. National Committeeman Dr. Carl Marchetti was in attendance and gave the Keynote Address.
  • Charles "Tip" Haug served as Area Conference Chief.

  • Dale Ott Serves as Lodge Chief.

  • Lawrence "Larry" Harrison Jr. was elected Lodge Chief.

 

1969

  • Lawrence "Larry" Harrison Jr Reelected as Lodge Chief.
  • Woa Cholena produced its first "Where to go Camping Guide".
  • The Lodge hosts another Area Conference in 1969.

 

1970

 

  • John D. Smith Serves as Lodge Chief.
  • The Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the lodge was celebrated at Camp Pushmataha in 1970.

    1974 

     

  •       Michael E Box serves as Lodge Chief.
  • The lodge emblem was adopted in 1974. The emblem contains a calumet(Brotherhood), a drum head(Cheerfulness), the cardinal points of the compass(Service), the Great White Bird(Totem), the feathers at the bottom of the compass rose represent the four chapters active at the time of adoption of the emblem. Maubila, Baldwin, Spanish Trail, and Choctaw chapters. The Lodge colors officially adopted at the Pow Wow in 1974 are Kelly Green, Cardinal Red, Canary Yellow. Kelly Green represents our dedication as Arrowmen to Scouting's Camping Traditions. Cardinal Red represents the American Indian where we draw our Customs and Traditions. Canary Yellow Reminds us of service.
  • The "Blue Woa" adopted as the official Trading patch of the Lodge. The "Red Woa" was restricted to one flap per honor per life. At the time, one of the most restictive flaps in the Nation.

    1975

  • Pow Wow was held at Maubila Scout Reservation 
  • Tom Ames was elected Lodge Chief.
  • A small number of Lodge members attend The National Order of the Arrow Conference(NOAC) at Miami University.

    1976

  • Fall Ordeal Held at Camp Pushmataha. The Bunk Houses, Rifle Range, Boat House, First Aid Hut and Trading Post are torn down as Ordeal Projects.
  • Woa Cholena hosted the Twenty-fifth annual SE-4A Conclave at Maubila. One highlight of the weekend was the fireworks show in celebration of our Nation's Bi-Centennial.
  • Richard Conrad Served as Section Chief.
  • The "Blue Woa" was removed as the trading flap of the Lodge. To get rid of the inventory every member could buy 3 per honor until supplies were exhausted. All restrictions were lifted from the Lodge flaps to comply with the new National Committee directive.

    1977

     

  • 1977 was a very lean year for Woa Cholena. By Spring of that year attendance at Lodge functions was at an all time low.
  • Jack Phillips Resigns as Lodge Chief
  • Scout Executive Joe Long selected Mr. Jack Pickett (Scoutmaster Troop 177) to be Lodge Adviser. Mr Pickett was task with taking the small number of active Arrowmen and form a core group to bring Woa Cholena back to a viable OA Lodge.
  • Pow Wow 1977 had 18 Arrowmen in attendence.

    1978

  • Dana Hofiens Lodge Secretary, and the only active Lodge officer at the time recruited a small group of arrowmen to change the Lodge induction program. Hip Purvis/Ceremonies, Scott Davis/Ordeal Work Projects, Mike Booker/Elections, Bobby Zimmerman/New Member Orientation, Tony Haines/Elangomats, Buddy Weaver/Ordeal Master, Dana Hofiens/In-Camp Chief. Summer Camp 1978 saw the first In-Camp Election/Ordeal/Inductions. Over 200 new arrowmen were inducted into the Lodge during the 1978 Summer Camping Season.
  • Spanish Trail Dance team danced during each session at MSR during Summer Camp.
  • Pow Wow was well attended that year with more than 125 arrowmen in attendance. 
    Lodge officers elections were held at Pow Wow with the following members being elected: Buddy Weaver Lodge Chief, Tony Haines Vice Chief, Lee Pickett Deputy Chief, Pat Piercy Secretary/Treasurer. Spanish Trail Chapter Dance Team won the the Lodge team dance competition with the Chipawa Paddle Dance. Team members were Bobbie Jeffries, Mike Booker, Buddy Weaver, Rod Kesterson, Mike Lombard.
  • Lodge Dance team patches were last sold during Summer Camp at MSR.

    1979

  • Lodge Officers elected at Pow Wow: Buddy Weaver Lodge Chief, Tony Haines Vice Chief, Hip Purvis Deputy Chief, Pat Piercy Secretary/Treasurer.
  • Choctaw Chapter dance team entertained parents and Scouts at MSR each week at Camp. Members were Jimbo Haines, Tony Haines, Tim Haines, Bobby Haines, Jack Phillips, Don Rawson, Rob Harrison.

    1980

  • Conclave is held at Camp Horn. The Lodge sends delegation to Conclave.
  • The Lodge sent members to the National Leadership Seminar in Valdosta Georgia.
  • J. Mark Harrison is selected as Lodge Adviser.
  • The Lodge elections were held at Pow Wow, Buddy Weaver Lodge Chief, Robby Gulledge Vice Chief, Pete Anderson Deputy Chief. 
  • Mr. John Dowe National Committee Member was in attendance.

    1981

  • At the January Section Meeting Buddy Weaver is Elected SE-4A Section Chief for the 1981 Conclave. Robbie Gulledge is elected Lodge Chief to fill the remainder of the term.
  •  
    The Lodge sends 64 delegates to the SE-4A Conclave at Camp Sequoyah. The Lodge wins "Best all Around Lodge", "Mr. Axe", 1st place-Ordeal Ceremony. Dance Team wins team dance competition.
  • The Founders Award is established by the National Order of the Arrow Committee.

    1982

  • Mr. David Ladnier (Lodge Chief '71) Is appointed Lodge Advisor. David Luders Is elected Lodge Chief at Pow Wow.

    1983

  • Woa Cholena Lodge won 2nd place in the Team Dance competition at the 1983 conclave held at Camp Euchee in Defuniak Springs, Florida. The team performed the Taos Horsetail Dance, and team members included Jim Alexander, Steve Latimer, Tommy Wilder, & Joey Ward
  • At the 1983 Powwow, Eddie Mann was elected 1983-84 Lodge Chief.

    1984

     

     

  • Jim Alexander won 1st place in the Southern Fancy Dance competition, and Bart Winkler won 3rd place at the 1984 Conclave held at Camp Jackson.  The drum was provided by members of Woa Cholena Lodge including Jimbo Haines, Mark Harrison , Don Rawson, Jack Phillips, and Buddy Weaver
  • At the fall Pow Wow held in August at Camp Maubila, Charlie Dean and Bart Winkler were inducted into the Vigil Honor, and Rob Harrison was elected 1984-85 Lodge Chief. 
  • Also that year, the lodge commissioned William C. Morris, a local artist, Scouter and winner of the national duck stamp competition, to design a flap for the year that included images of our area including a red tail hawk, the Battleship USS Alabama, and Fort Conde.

    1985

  • Bart Winkler was elected the Section Chief of Section SE-3 at the 1985 Conclave held at Camp Alaflo in Dothan, AL.  Once again, Jim Alexander, III won 1st place in the Southern Fancy Dance competition. 
  • Also that year, Jim Alexander, III was elected the 1985-86 Lodge Chief at the fall Pow-Wow held in August at Camp Maubila. Mike Phillips was elected Vice Chief.  Also at the Pow Wow, the following brothers were inducted into the Vigil Honor: Jim Alexander, III, Pat Piercy, Richard Kimbrough, and William Webb.  Ron Konya was unable to attend, but was inducted into the Vigil at the winter Ordeal in December. 
  • Ten members of the lodge participated in the first National Order of the Arrow Philmont Trek. The Ten members of the Trek OA Philmont Trek included Jim Alexander, Rob Harrison, Bullit Jones, Mike Matthews, Jack Phillips, Bart Winkler, and Joey Ward, Stephen Presnall, Brian Angle. 
  • The lodge held its first Winter Social, or banquet, in December of that year.  It was held at the Piccadilly Cafeteria at Bel Air Mall and the outgoing Lodge Chief, Rob Harrison, served as the master of Ceremonies.  J. Mark Harrison was presented with the Founder’s Award.   As the section chief, Bart Winkler traveled to Dallas, Texas in December of that year to attend the National Order of the Arrow Planning Meeting.  At that meeting, Bart was elected Southeast Region Chief.

    1986

     

  • Once again, Jim Alexander won 1st Place in the Southern Fancy Dance competition at the SE-3 conclave held at Camp Tuckabatchee in Prattville, Alabama.  Also, the Lodge was responsible for publishing the Section newsletters for the weekend.  Traveling with a tremendous amount of photography developing equipment, the lodge included photographs from the weekend in each of the newsletters. 
  • The lodge sent 7 delegates to the 1986 NOAC in Mount Pleasant Michigan in Central Michigan University.  The delegation included Jim Alexander, Mark Harrison (Lodge Adviser), Rob Harrison, Robert LaBlanc, Larry LeBlanc, Mike Phillips and Paul Hendrix.  Jim Alexander competed against over 200 dancers in the National Southern Fancy Dance competition and made to the final 10, but eliminated himself in the final round due to the loss of a piece of costumeing. 
  • The fall Pow Wow was held at Camp Maubila, Robert LaBlanc was elected 1986-87 Lodge Chief at the fall Pow Wow held at Camp Pushmataha.and the following six brothers were inducted into the Vigil Honor:  John McNamara, Reggie Parmer, Percy Pearson, Mike Phillips, Jerome Swan, and Richard Kimbrell.
  • Bart Winkler was elected Southeast Region Chief at the planning meeting in December.

    1987

     

  • Jim Alexander, III, was elected SE-3 chief at the Conclave held at Camp Horne in Tuscaloosa, AL.  Mike Matthews was elected 1987-88 Lodge Chief at the fall Pow-Wow.    H. Randall Jones was selected as the Lodge Adviser in the fall of 1987.  As the section chief, Jim Alexander traveled to Dallas, Texas in December of that year to attend the National Order of the Arrow Planning Meeting.  At that meeting, Jim was elected Southeast Region Chief.

    1988

     

  • In 1988, the lodge sent a delegation to the National OA Conference in Fort Collins, Colorado.  The delegation included Haney Jones, Randy Jones, Ray McLean, and Jerome SwanJim Alexander was also in attendance as the Southeast Region Chief, and presided over the Southern Region Gathering with over 1,000 Southern Region Arrowmen in attendance. 
  • In the fall of that year, the lodge reorganized its leadership structure and conducted its first Lodge Officer Training course (LOT).

    William T. Luc, replaced Larry Bain as Scout Executive in 1987, and eliminated chapters 1988.
  • Woa Cholena won Best All-Around Lodge again at the 1988 Conclave.

    1989

       

       

       

  • In 1989, the lodge sent a delegation to the 2nd Order of the Arrow Philmont Trek.  The participants included Jim Alexander, Robbie Duggar, Haney Jones, Randall Jones, Ray McLean, Jerome Swan, Ted Weisser, Bart Winkler, Chip Harmon, Louie Endress, and were recognized for hiking over 50 miles in 5 days, longer than any other lodge contingent.   At the Pow Wow in August, Jim Alexander, III and David Martin were presented with the Founder’s Award.

  • Woa Cholena hosted the Section Conclave at Maubila Scout Reservation.
  • The 1989 National Chief, Jack Stephens attended and participated in the Saturday Night Live Theme Show.
  • Haney Jones was elected Section Chief.
  • Woa Cholena won the Southeast Region Volleyball Competition at the 1990 NOAC.
  • James M."Jim" Alexander III is awarded the Distiguished Service Award (DSA) at NOAC.

  • Woa Cholena won "Best All-Around Lodge Award" at the 1991 SR-8 Conclave.
  • In August of 1995, the lodge hosted their Fiftieth-Anniversary at Camp Maubila Scout Reservation.

  • Woa Cholena hosted the SR-8B Conclave at Maubila Scout Resrevation.
  • Claiborne Walthall served as Section Vice-Chief and Steven McNair served as Section Secretary.

  • The lodge was awarded "Best All-Around Lodge Award at the 2000 SR-8B Conclave.
  • Carsen Strickland served as Section Chief. 
  • Woa Cholena is realigned into SR-4N after Conclave.

      2001

       

  • Brad Grandquest served as Section Vice-Chief

              2002

     

  • The first SR-4N section event was a training seminar held at Camp Osborne, in Sylvester GA with SR-4S. 
  • Stephen Pierre Lodge Chief and 60 Lodge members attended the first SR-4N Conclave held at Camp Tuckabatchee.
  • Woa Cholena won best All-Around Lodge, Best Lodge Spirit, and also won the newly acquired SR-4N "Mr. Axe" award.
  • Steven Pierre served as Section Vice-Chief.
  • 24 Arrowmen attended the 2002 NOAC held at the University of Indiana. Woa Cholena won one of the twenty Lodge Spirit Awards given out. The lodge History Display won 3rd place in the Southern Region and received an "Excellent" evaluation.

            2003 

     

  • Conclave was held at Camp Alaflo and Scotty Keenan was elected Section Chief.
  •  

              2004

     

  • Hurricaine Ivan sweeps through the North Central Gulf Coast reaping Havoc on Maubila Scout Reservation. Woa Cholena Lodge defers hosting Conclave for a year to get MSR back into shape.
  •  

     

             2005

     

  • Conclave is held at Camp Tukabatchee. Scotty Keenan served as a Jamboree Vice Chief at the National Scout Jamboree.
  • Lodge rebuilds the camp arena and begins building new bath houses at MSR.

 

 

                    2006

       

  • Woa Cholena Served host to the SR-4N Section Conclave. This is the largest Conclave this Section has held.
  • Mark Norris is elected Section Chief.
  • The Lodge sends a delegation to NOAC.
  • Scotty Keenan is awarded the Distinguished Service Award(DSA) at NOAC.
    •  

      2007

  • Conclave is held at Camp Tol-O-Chee in Georgia.
  • James M. "Jim" Alexander III (Lodge Chief '86) is appointed Section Adviser.
  • Mark Norris is elected Section Chief for a second term. 
    •  

      2008

       

       

  • Conclave is held at Camp Patton in Georgia. This the last Conclave of SR-4N. Mark Norris Elected Section Chief for a 3rd term.
  • At the National Planning Meeting in December Mark Norris is elected Region Chief for the Southern Region.
  • Lodge participates in Arrow Corp 5 the largest service project in the history of the Order of the Arrow.

      2009

       

  • The Lodge is realigned in Section SR-1B. Woa Cholena sends seventy-two Arrowmen to Conclave at Camp Euchee in Florida.
  • James Burch is Elected Section Chief.
  • Lodge sends contingent to NOAC in Bloomington, Indiana. The Lodge Ceremony teams competed at NOAC. The Preordeal Team(awarded a Medal). Team members were Eli Aikens, James Burch, Matthew Jacobs, and Chance Wheeler. Kyle Sheppard competed with the Brotherhood Team.
  • Pow Wow is held At Maubila Scout Reservation. Eli Aikens is elected Lodge Chief. Will Burch Vice-Chief, Michael Stelly Secretary, Chance Wheeler Treasurer.
  • James Burch is awarded the Vigil Honor. Mr. Jody Powell is awarded the Founders Award.
  • The Great Southern Region holds the Section Officer Seminar(SOS) in Mobile Alabama. Woa Cholena Lodge serves as Service Lodge for the event. Approximately 80 Arrowmen from Virginia to Texas attend the event including 2009 National Vice Chief Dan Higham.

  • Lodge held the First Banquet in 25 years. Mr. Mike Box (Lodge Chief 1974-75) was the key-note Speaker.
  • Section Seminar is held at Maubila Scout Reservation. 90 plus Arrowmen are in attendance. Woa Cholena lead by Chance Wheeler as chairman for the event provides the Service Corp to Seminar.
  • Mobile Area Council aquires Camp Pinetreat.
  • Conclave was hosted by Ashwanchi Kinta Lodge at Camp Binachi.
  • Woa Cholena Won Best All Around Lodge At Conclave.
  • James Burch was re-elected Section Chief. Eli Aikens Lodge Chief was Elected Section Vice-Chief. 
  • Thad Hendrix (Lodge Chief 1995) Appointed Lodge Advisor.
  • Pow Wow was held at Pine Treat. With over 100 members in attendance Barkley Kiel (
    Spanish Trail Chapter Chief) was elected Lodge Chief for 2010-2011 Lodge year. Zach Kibler was elected Deputy Chief, Matt Hartigan Lodge Secretary and Chris Smilie Lodge Treasurer. The "BIG EVENT" was a kick ball game for the entire Lodge with elements of popcicle eating and hula hoops.
  • Woa Cholena again recieved Quality Lodge for 2010.

 

 

                 2011

 

  • 2nd Annual Lodge Banquet is Held at Fairhope Baptist Church with 110 Members and guest in attendance. Mr. Billy Walley of the National Order of the Arrow Committee was the keynote speaker. James H. Burch and Buddy Weaver were presented the Founder's Award for 2010.
  • Zach Kibler Elected Section Vice Chief of SR1B at Conclave held at Camp Ala-Flo. 60 Lodge members were in attendance and took home several awards including "Best Spirited Lodge".
